Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

I am getting a bonus from work and provided the new wife doesn't throw a fit, I am planning on upgrading my turbo. I already have an MBC, boost gauge, injen intake, 2 1/2" downpipe and hi-flow cat. Depending on the size of the bonus, or bone for that matter, I am looking at getting the following:

EVO 16g
SBR Hacker install kit
660cc injectors
255lph fuel pump
SAFC-II

My question is....can I use this with the factory cat back exhaust. I realize that I am going to be sacrificing performance by using the factory exhaust. I do not want to go aftermarket because of the look and the noise associated with aftermarket exhausts. I am just wondering if it will all work with the factory exhaust, or do I have to worry about boost creep, killing the turbo, or worse. I'll let you know tomorrow on how the bonus goes (Praying!)

Thanks,

Nathan

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

The factory exhaust will decrease the likelyhood of boost creep, but you won't be getting the most out of the turbo.

To answer the question; yes you can run the factory exhaust.

Good luck with the bonus.

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

Lando has nailed it. 2.5 works ok but 3" would be the best.

i heard that an evoIII o2 housing works best with that turbo, but it wont bolt dirrectly to the N1 downpipe. that true?

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

i'm pretty sure i have heard that too Scott.

the problem i have is that when you make power you make noise. and what is the point of making power if you are not going to support it? you might as well get a 14b and just stick with that over going all out and getting an EVO 16g, safcII, etc...

Make sure you are also planning on getting a datalogger, like Pocketlogger.
Sure, you can run any turbo on stock exhaust and not hurt anything... it just won't be nearly as fast as it could be. There are some quiet catbacks with dual tip mufflers that look almost exactly like stock. I can't think of the name right now, but other quiet exhausts that have DECENT tips are Apexi WS, and RS*R

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

Well, I got the bonus and it's not as big as I had hoped but it's good for some power . After fucking uncle sam got his dick out of my ass , I was left with $1200 of the $2000 from the bonus. I called slow boy racing and talked to them about what I should spend the money on. I was advised to go with a T-28 ($739.00) and a 255lph fuel pump (109.00) for a total of $898.88 after tax (fucking uncle sam again! ). Anyway he advised against an SAFC until I had some logging software and said that although injectors would help out...they are not necessary with the T-28. He also said that the only thing I needed to be able to turn up the boost to about 15-16lbs was the fuel pump. He advised that I keep the extra $300 for later. Sounds good to me. What do you guys think???

By the way....The car has 96,000 miles on the clock but has been maintained meticuously. It's ok to put a bigger turbo on a car with that many miles, isn't it?????

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

i think if your not married to sbr you can find better deals out there. i've seen 255's for $80. i dont know what you want for performance, but the t-28 is a good turbo. are you crusing? or are you racing. if your just crusing, stick with the smaller turbo's so you can get full boost fast!! its alot more fun in town. if your going with raceing live large!!

its ok to put a turbo on it, sure. if you dont upgrade the fuel system (pump, injectors, regulator, logging system, and fuel delivery managment) you might loose performance slighty untell you can tune your fuel maps to overcome the fuel cut at 15psi. just a word of advice. so if your into a nice ass crusing ride, try a smaller turbo, 14b, 16g, and even a small t3-t4, and i think with some shopping around you can get everything i listed for under what you have to work with. besides, no matter how much $ you put into your car, there will always be a nicer faster car!! have fun man!!

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

I am using the car for cruising, I have never taken it to the track nor do I plan to. I might shop around for it somewhere else but SBR has free shipping on any order over $750. I have heard good things about them in this and other forums, so I thought I would throw them some business. The only thing that sucks is I would like to buy the stuff out of state (no sales tax) but I can't find the turbo that cheap anywhere else. I guess the T-28 it is (provided the wife doesn't give me too much shit )

Re: Factory exhaust with EVO 16g

t28's are just too expensive for my taste. you can get other turbo's for way cheaper that will meet your needs much better, IMHO
