ABS Codes #35 & #36

Just had my '96 Aurora scanned at the dealership for ABS warning lamp.

They are reporting codes 35 & 36 = which indicate the left rear hub is bad.

Can anyone confirm that is what the codes reflect prior to my purchasing a new hub at the part store? Dealer wants $526 installled - I can get the hub myself for $235 and put a little sweat equity into it for a $291 savings!

Why are there 2 codes - what specifically does each one indicate?

Thanks -

I believe 35 indicates the right rear wheel speed circuit is open or shorted and 36 indicates the left rear wheel speed circuit is intermittant. These are from a 98 code reference though.

Re: ABS Codes #35 & #36

Looking at the 96 FSM the Trouble Code 35 LR Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open or shorted and Code 36 LR Wheel Speed Sensor Signal Missing. They do go into great detail on checking continuity for the sensors and wiring. They also say in order to prevent electromagnetic interference from disturbing the EBCM/EBTCM to each wheel speed sensor are twisted in pairs a minimum of 6 to 9 turns per foot and when servicing the sensor cables it is important to maintain the original cables twist ( 6 to 9 turns per foot) so if you DIY make sure and maintain the twist. The FSM may be a bit exspensive but the wealth of info they contain for jobs like this are priceless.
Good Luck
Mike

Oldsdad -

Thanks for the info.

Would your shop manual happen to specify the torque settings for the 4 bolts that mount the rear wheel hub?
