Ambient Temperature Sensor...

The temperature indicator up on the headliner in my 2000 Montana says OC most of the time now instead of the temperature outside like it is supposed to. The service tech said the sensor had a short in it and he told me it was located behind the grill. He said it was a $9 part and $40 to install. Does anyone know how to install it? Is it difficult to get to? Any thoughts? Thanks.

Our '01 Montana does this occasionally, especially when first started up. Then it's fine. What does OC stand for? It should be in the Owner's Manual, I've never bothered to look.

If that's all they want for a labor charge to install, I'd just buy the thing and go take a look, as the price tells me that this is an easy one.

Like, one mounting bolt and one electrical connector, easy. $35 to $40 at shop labor rates is about 15 minutes.

Just changed it out and it was about a 2 min job, its right behind grill.

mine needs replaced too. While we were in FLorida a couple of weeks ago the outside temp gauge said 40` but the actual temp outside was 90`. Anyone know the part number for it? I was gonna check the price on GMpartsdirect.com

Are you sure you didn't hit the mode button and unwittingly switch it to Celsius (metric system)? Just something to think about because when there was a problem with mine it read OC all the time. Anyhow, the part number is 010248414 and it is described as a "sensor". It cost me $8.14.

nope it was `F cause the MPG shows 25.8. Even the temp is off on my Grand Prix
