Talking New guy just registered with a few questions ^_^

Hello everyone,
I am stoked that I found this website, absolutely love the tutorial and the how-to pages. I have read most of the FAQs and the How-to tutorial and basically have a few questions regarding the kit I just bought. The other day I bought a Aoshima kit, Nismo R34, do you guys have any thoughts on this kit? I still have a chance to return it, the reason I didnt get a Tamiya kit is because the R34 looks really good with the nismo kit and the wheels are much better than the Tamiya. I did however purchased a tamiya ferrari 360 coupe along with the nismo.

Also, I went to pepboys today to get a 600, 800, and 1200 grit sanding paper as recommended by the tutorial to prime the shell. However, I couldnt find any plastic primer, so I purchased a regular metal/wood primer, do you think this will be thin enough not to cover the lines around the hood, windows etc around the shell? or should I return this primer and search for a plastic primer somewhere else?
Anxious to get this project started, so any answers are appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Here is a picture of a Subaru STI that I did. I had no experience, only have a silver paint, a few sharpees and a lot of patience

Thanks!
I was not happy at all, I didnt take the side profile shot as there are flaws especially because of the paint, and now that I have discovered some techniques from the FAQs sections, my next one will be way better
I'll take more pics later and post em.

How about the primer, should I continue on with the regular spray primer?

Your always learning something new in this hobby, so it's good that you want to make it better. But, flaws are expected when you're learning, so don't worry about them, everybody made them at some time.

As for the primer, post the manufacturer name, we could probably give you some tips about problems you might encounter with that specific brand, also.

the brand I happen to pick up at pepboys is Varsity. Its a fast drying primer for wood/metal - basic gray color.
Well, here is one more pic, you can see some flaws on the rear lower bumper and little marking over the window. I build this kit in 2 days, thats why there are quite a few things not done such as brake disc not painted silver and a few interior left out to be painted. I was also rushing on the paint, thats why it had a flaw in the bumper due to finger prints hehe. Wheels are painted glossy black because this model is an exact replica of my car supposedly well... except the mirror which is suppose to be carbon fibre but I painted flat black as well.

Welcome!
First build? It looks more than nice! You already know how to hide the flaws by taking good shots!!! Apart from the fingerprint, your metallic paintjob is very good! I'm sure your next one will be closer to perfection, but you don't imagine how many modelers would like to be able to make such good looking finished models!
I hope to see more of yours here soon!

Excellent work! All you need in that car is the panel lines. Other than that, the car is perfect! A hobby primer will be easier to work with than household primers. I use Krylon primer and I have slight orange peel problems, but they can be easily fixed. But I'm still going to switch to a hobby primer. The best one I've heard is Tamiya primer.

Thanks guys.
As far as good pictures, I did hide it a bit But I'll show you guys some rear quarter shot so you can see the flaws a little closer.
I regret that I finished the subie in 2 days, but oh well, moving on to my nismo I'll take pics later for both of them.

Welcome to AF!

As far as the primer, get some Tamiya Fine Surface Primer.

Re: New guy just registered with a few questions ^_^

for a first model, it's quite impressive

Silver is a hard color to work with, all error will show easily on it. this is why some ppl use gray primer or silver to look if there putty job are fine.

as for the Aoshima R34 Nismo, sure Tamiya + SAS transition kit (www.scaleautostyle.com) would be better, but more expensive.

Aoshima are the second best plastic maker after tamiya

As for the primer, Metal Primer will hurt the plastic, I wouldn't try it

Finally, never take 2 day to make a model...no kit should take less than 1 week. Take your time ! you will get better result, and it will cost you less money in one year since you will make less kits

Plasti-Kote #T-235 Primer in the black can is a great primer; I've used it for years. The mahority of the cars on my website were primed with it.
