Dissing the rotary

A lot of people tell me that rotaries are crap after 100k miles, and everyone says they are high maintenance, since most of you seem to be experienced rx-7 drivers, what is the deal? are they expensive and do they have a lot of problems after 100k miles?

Re: Dissing the rotary

Well, mine blew at 105k. . . Which was GREAT, how nice of the rotary to give me a perfect excuse to tear it apart!

Re: Dissing the rotary

mine has 109k and runs very good, needs a tune up and the idle needs to be adjusted, but all thats gone out on me since I bought it in november was the clutch. my cousin has an S4 that has 180,xxx miles and it still runs, but his clutch went out so its sitting right now.

turbos need rebuilt around 100k but thats about all.

FD's have the most reliability issues

Re: Dissing the rotary

If the NA is taken care of with proper scheduled tuneups it can last over 200K. Turbo II engines can last 100K to 180K. Not all engines are built equal so it's really hard to say, but thats an average figuring good care. On rx7club.com one of the guys Turbo II engine went out after 186K miles.

yeah, my N/A went 212,000.

its the boosted ones that have problems. Course they can be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost...
