Difference in US And Canadian engines?

Are there any differences in specs between a US D16a6 and a Canadian D16a6?

Also, if I were to put a 91 SI D16a6 head onto a D15b2 engine, but still utilzie my DPFI setup, will I see any performance gain at all?

Thanks for your time. Troy

Re: Difference in US And Canadian engines?

There is no difference between the US D16A6 and the Canadian D16A6 engines.

Answer to your second question...probably not. The MPFI setup along with the different ECU is where the majority of the performance gains are to be had. Even if you swapped in a D16A6 and ECU, you still probably wouldn't feel much of a difference unless you swapped in an Si tranny as well.

Re: Difference in US And Canadian engines?

hehe actually if you swapped in a D16a6 and ecu you would notice a gain. tranny aside thats something of a 20-30hp gain on engine alone!

Thats not bad at all considering that people do full I/H/E and only get 10 if their lucky. The tranny will do wonders for your acceleration to higher speeds ... umm faster. but honestly it depends on his needs, i would rather cruise at a lower RPM with my dx tranny then have to deal with the si tranny.

Also, considering that depending on year the cars were put together in Canada there probly isnt much of a diffrence except in terms of emisions. I know anything in California is diffrent from the rest of the continental US, so it could be possible that because they have harsher or more lieniant laws you could have a slightly diffrent exhaust system.

As far as which cars were made in Canada, it's a bit of a mixed bag. All CRX's were made in Japan. None were made here in Canada. The 88-91 Civic's are about half and half. Some made in Japan and some "assembled" here in Canada. In fact, an awful lot of the Civics in the US were "assembled" in Canada. If you look at the VIN plate, and it's a brown in colour and starts with "2H", it was "assembled" in Canada. Why am I saying that they were "assembled" and not "made in Canada"? It's because none of the parts were made here. They were all made in Japan. You're right though, the only cars that I would expect any differences on are the ones in California...but I sincerely doubt that they would change the engine. They'd just slap on a different exhaust, change the tranny gearing, and give it an ECU with different fuel maps.

Re: Difference in US And Canadian engines?

yes, I think what you are saying is rights stickershop, I think the engines and components are the same, but the model are different, for example, I have an 89 CX, which has a d15b2 with 5spd tranny, and in the states there was no CX, rather an STD with a d15b1.....

Re: Difference in US And Canadian engines?

D15B2 = 92hp
D16A6 = 108hp

Adding multiport and an Si head to a 1.5L block isnt going to give it 20hp. The closest engien for a comparison is the 92-95 D15B7, which is 1.5L multiport and puts out 102hp. With the addition of the Si cam, you could safely say your engine would put out abotu 105hp at the crank.

simply adding an Si head and leaving the fuel injection DPI would most likely give you a very small bump in performance, since the d16a6 cam is a little more aggressive than the D15 cam

I really don't think you would knotice a difference if all you did was switch heads without the intake manifold (in other words, just the cam)...

Re: Difference in US And Canadian engines?

Awesome replies as usual folks!!! I will be bolting a D16a6 head onto my D15b2 engine. I'll have to use the DPFI setup until I find the rest of the parts for the MPFI setup. Last couple of questions for you. I know I'll have to put a new head gasket on but, should I buy a D15b2 gasket kit or D16a6 gasket kit from Honda? Which engine's timing belt? Thanks again for the help folks! Troy
