Ok here is the deal, i have a 1990 chevy lumina with a rebuilt engine that has 60,000km on it.
All of a sudden one day a long time ago my lumina decides to idle rough, so i started to change the iac valve, throttle positioning sensor, feul pump, feul filter, all three coils, and oil preasure switch, mabe some other stuff that i cannot remember. Now after about a month of having bad idling my car solved that problem by starting and shutting off right away. Can someone please tell me why my car starts runs for a second then shuts off??? Decebal; I had this same thing happen to a car I had and it was the air flow sensor which should be located near the air filter box. Since you did all of this other work I would make sure everything between the air filter and intake is tight, no cracks in the line where air flows and connections on the sensors are tight.

Re: My Lumina Starts the shut off right after!!! HELP!!! Please!!!
I tried the sensor and checked the hoses and everything is ok.
Can it be the regulator because i dont have feul preasure??? Decebal |

In that case I would check the fuel pump fuses. Maybe even take the gas line loose from the filter, have someone turn the key on and off real fast to see if the pump is pumping fuel. If not and the fuse is OK, you may have a fuel pump problem.

I replaced the feul pump and filter and fuse my relay is ok also.
Could it be the regulator? |

I guess I should have wrote that last post a little different. I had seen where you replaced the pump, filter and such but from what I get from your question it also started running rough afterwards. Usually if I replace a part but then get different symtoms I go back to the parts I just replaced to make sure they are working right. This is why I said about checking the fuse. I was just trying to establise that you are getting fuel to the engine even though you just replaced these parts. Regulators can certainly cause problems but in my experience not very often. If you are absolutly sure that you are getting spark and fuel to the engine under pressure then maybe it is one of your last options. You could look on the fuel rail for the valve where you check pressure. It will have a cap on it and when you take the cap off it looks like a tire valve. Push the valve in while someone else turns the engine over. If lots of pressure then you are probably ok. Another thing I ran into with a jeep 4.0 engine. It would not run either. They have a quick connect gas lines on the return so I took it off, ran a quart or so of gas into a can, put the gas line back on and it ran like a top afterwards. Water and probably air that would not go thru the enjectors. You have one of those cases that you keep replacing parts that are not bad but can't find the bad one. Would have been nice if you were able to get it to a repair garage to start with. It would have been cheaper in the long run. I know this is really long but trying to come up with some ideas without replacing parts you do not need.

Re: My Lumina Starts the shut off right after!!! HELP!!! Please!!!
I took apart the air plentum and fuel rails and I am gonna buy a fuel pressure regulator.
Hopefully this is the end of my spending. |

That didn't solve much,
I think it could be a bad feul pump or ECM |

Decebal, you said you replaced all these parts, BUT did you check to see if you had spark? and to see if you hada fuel pulse at the injectors? Check those. You may also wanna try and check for voltage across the grounds and see if you have a massive drop you could be missing a ground somewhere. check power down at the fuel pump to see if it is cutting on when key is on and then going back to 0.00 V. if you have no power to the pump then you lost power from the battery to the pump, or no ground. check all those andsee what you got. you should have no more than 1.5V lost at any given time

Re: My Lumina Starts the shut off right after!!! HELP!!! Please!!!
I havent done the voltage test yet but i redid the ground wiring from the battery and they were in real bad shape!!! But the car still has the same symptoms.
Will keep you posted thanks. Decebal |

Re: My Lumina Starts the shut off right after!!! HELP!!! Please!!!
People i have had my last straw with this car and this will be the last thing i will do!!!
I am almost done rebuilding the intake manifold and plenum! It has been a bi*ch but it gave me a chance to clean all the oil off the engine! But guess what i found??? One of the vacuum hoses that comes from the throttle body was cracked!!! I dont think that was the reason for the stalling but it could give me rough idle! So i will finish it today and will post my findings!!! Wish me luck!!! Decebal |
