left brakelight

when the lights are on the left brakelight works fine, if the lights are oin and the brakes are pressed the left brakelight goes out. If the lights are off and the brakes are pressed the light isn't as bright as the other lights, it's as bright as if the lights were on. The fuses are fine, and the wiring in the trunk looks fine too, i was wondering if they come together somewhere in front of the trunk that might be a problem or if anyone out there has had this problem, it's a 2002 galant, any help would be much appreciated, and if you're in the dallas fort worth area (texas) i'll buy you a drink. thanx'
