Question car lacks power

i have a 91 lumina 4 door with a 3.1 v6 and an auto. It seems to be sluggish when taking off. I work for a used car lot and we have a 93 and a 94 Euro lumina with the same engine. Both of them will burn the tires if you take off hard. Is their a difference in the euro configurations or does my car just need a tune-up? Thanks for any advice you can give...

here is a list of things you can do that may help:

replace spark plugs and wires
change tranny filter and fluid
replace pcv valve
replace air filter
if you have it, replace distributor cap and rotor
check ignition timing
fuel filter
02 sensor replacement

I changed the air filter and fuel filter. My car has distribitorless ignition, so changing the cap won't help I'm begining to think it is either the catylitic convertor, as my car has 277,000 miles or like you suggested, plugs and wires. My cat make a droaning noise, so I think someone has probaly hollowed it out at some point . The transmission shifts good and fluid is the right color with no burnt odor so I'm sure its not trans related.

Re: car lacks power

OK, take your air filter out, and check and see if there is any moisture that has accumulated around the filter casing, if so, I would almost bet that your Cat converter is almost plugged. Good luck.
