94 Explorer won't start

My 94 Explorer sometimes will not start. Usually when I have driven it a little and stop for gas or something, it will not start. It cranks and cranks, never turns over. If I wait a few minutes and try it again, it will finally start. Mechanic can't figure it out. I don't think it has ever happened when it is cold. It has a Clifford alarm system, but I never have it activated, don't know if this could have something to do with it. Please help!

Unhappy 95 Explorer did the same thing

My 1995 Ford Explorer, manual trans. did the same thing.

That is up until last week. The waiting for awhile trick stopped working. Now it just cranks and cranks until I start to run the battery dead.

I got it jumped, then it started. Took it to get an oil change and got a new fuel filter put in.
It started fine about 4 times, then started doing the cranking but no starting thing again. Waited for about 5 minutes, then it started. Now today, it still cranks but wont start.
HELP!!

94 Explorer Starting Problem (My Solution)

I had the same starting problem with my 94 Explorer.

The Ford dealers, numberous garages & mechanics were totally clueless.

After about 2 months of trying everything, my friend and I (who isn't a mechanic, but likes to work on cars) found the problem.

What was happening was the fuel pump was overheating and triggering something in the sensor system which would not allow the fuel pump to pump fuel to the engine.

We replaced the fuel pump and it has started perfectly ever since (almost a year).

Incidently ..... a garage (where I live) wanted over $450.00 to replace the fuel pump. We got the fuel pump at Auto Zone for $26.00 and did it ourselves.

I hope this helps with your starting problem.
