Help - CD changer advice...

Hi - new to this forum, very informational!

Just bought a 1995 740i (great to be back in the realm of ownership...) with a CD changer that when used, only works on the left side speakers. The right side breaks in and out from time to time, many times as I go over bumps. The radio works fine in all speakers. I even bumped the right side interior doors and that caused the speakers to work off and on.

Any guesses on what the problem is likely to be? Wiring within the doors? Changer itself? I'm thinking about taking it somewhere to be looked at but it sounds pretty basic and therefore maybe I could save myself some $$.

Thanks.

If you can get it to work by hitting it, it's a loose wire. Easiest thing to fix, if you can get to the wires easily. Check for enough slack, pinching of the wire etc. If it needs to be repaired, solder it, don't tape it. I always like to use a heat shrink sheath when repairing wire rather than wraping with electrical tape. The tape after several years rots and leaves a sticky mess. Also the sheath provides better insulation from heat and interference. You can get a soldering iron for about $7.
