Question Buying a z28

there is a 99 Z28 LS1 for sale with around 50K miles on it. The owner is asking $15,500 for it. It has a new transmission, Open Y Pipe, intake, 6spd, etc.... he says its pushing around 400 hp. Would this be a good buy for that price? I dont know much about f bodys.

Re: Buying a z28

Its gonna need a lot more done to it than that to have 400hp, but if that were true then I would definately say it is worth 15

Re: Buying a z28

well, assuming those are the only mods, yeah, id say hes a bit under what hes saying, maybe 330 or 340hp. but if its clean, then 15k is a great bargan. at least in my opinion.

Re: Buying a z28

Didnt they come stock with like 325hp or something??? Intake and exhaust should get it over 350 if they came with that.

Re: Buying a z28

DSM, I will sell you mine for less than that and I have Dyno sheets to prove over 400 to the wheels without a power adder.

Re: Re: Buying a z28

Well 93-96 z28's are listed as 275 and 97's are 285, but honestly I don't know where they came up with that. They have 320 at the fly wheel and about 250 and the rear wheels. Air intakes and don't actually give as much hp as everyone thinks... if your talking about a cold air intake there more of a fad. And really exhaust isn't really going to give you much of anything unless its got headers or bigger pipes.

A K&N/Moroso style CAI on an LT1 does wonders on an LT1 car over the factory setup (Even SS's, only exception would be the LT1 Firehawk/WS6 cars that had a direct airflow similar to the LS1 design), especially once the exhaust is opened up...

I bet you put a CAI, K&N, and flows on an LT1 and you'll only get 1/10 or maybe 2/10's of a second off your 1/4 mile

Re: Buying a z28

Since I had a good friend purchase a chassis dyno a couple years ago I saw a lot of Mods go on cars and saw what they do (or don't do). A K&N CAI and decent Catback exhaust together would bring about 15-25hp at the wheels on a stock LT1 car. As you start doing more bolt on's, that CAI gets more effective and helps make more power that you would with a stock intake duct. Before the 383, my LT1 car made 314RWHP and 334RWLbs/Ft with ONLY BOLT ONS. I have never seen numbers near there with only bolt ons and a stock intake ducting. I don't think I ever saw about 290 without a CAI.
