Re: fuel filter location ?

Yes outisde. The fuel filter is located under the vehicle, mounted on the frame rail on the driver's side. Its quite small but u will find it. About 'lifetime' gurantee, well i dont know about that, but i know u have to change them like every like 12000 kms or something like that , check Haynes maunal
hope this helps

Re: fuel filter location ?

yea it is located on the drivers side by the rear axle, there are 2 lil clips on each line, u have to pinch these clips, and pull the lines to get them off. also don't forget to relieve the pressure from ur lines before u remove it.

The shop manual says every 60K which is what i've been doing. Disconnect the battery 1st. take off the gas filler tube cap to open up the system. relieve the pressure - the driver side of the fuel rail has a relief valve with a cap about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way back from the front. unscrew the cap. the valve is like the tire valve. find something to push in on the needle and hold till the seepage stops from relieving the pressure. Be sure to put towel, rags or whatever under this area to collect the small seepage rather than getting it on the intake manifold. Like the other guys said earlier go underneath - it's easy to find. There are some 2 or 3 types of clips used. Won't know which till u look. Don't try forcing anything off until you're clear as to type and what to depress in order to unclip. I don't have haynes or chilton, so don't know if they go into detail concerning the clips. Jeep shop manual does. anyway the whole job doesn't take 5 min. good luck

Check Haynes/Chilton. I have a 97' JGC 5.2L and the damn filter is on top of the fuel tank. The fuel tank must be dropped in order to replace this part. To make matters worse I could not find this part at any aftermarket store(Autozone, Pep, etc..). But of course the dealer had it for a 102 bucks! Have fun.

The correct way to relive the fuel pressure, take gas cap off, then take the fuel pump relay out, it is located in the power distribution center in the engine compartment next to the battery, then start the jeep, it may not start, but if it does it will stall shortly after, then try to start it a couple more times, just to make sure all fule is out of the lines. then take key out of ignition, put relay back, and d/c'd negative battery cable.
