new carburator

i'm not sure what kind of carb to get or if i should rebuilt the one i have. it's a holly 650 and a friend told me to junk the thing and to buy an elderbrock. i'm not sure if i should buy some kind of new one or rebuild the one i have. any suggestions on good carbs for a '78??
