1/4 time on 2+2

i have a 300zx 2+2 automatic. i know it sucks but im 17 and i payed for myself so im proud. anyways i was wondering what the quarter mile time is on this. i keep reading 15.9 for a 2+2 manual. since mine is an automatic mine has to be a little slower. but i really dont feel like my car is a 16 second car. feels a lot faster than 16 second or even high 15's. havent had the chance to prove my theory but im hoping somone has.

Im not sure what the exact numbers are but if its 15.9 with a 5 speed its probably around 16.2 or so with the automatic.

What year is the Z?

You might try looking at www.Z31.com, I beleive they have stock quarter mile time posted somewhere on their site.

Re: 1/4 time on 2+2

16-ish sounds about right. They feel faster because they're geared kinda high like that. I remember the first day I got my 86 2+2 5-speed, I decided to go drive around for a min on my break at work. I was driving along in first gear at...like...5 mph or so and decided to floor it. Almost flung my Coke in the back seat. But if you pay attention to the speed-o-meter, you're not going all that fast. I just got my 86 Turbo and that thing feels like a damn ROCKET (as well as feeling amazing in every other aspect in comparison to the Celica) cuz I've been driving a little beater Celica for so long...I keep reminding myself that it's not the fastest thing on the road...but it will be faster...soon.

Ordered my HKS Type 1 turbo timer last night...:P

Re: 1/4 time on 2+2

Cool. Let us know. I've actually heard that the auto is actually better for 1/4 mile runs in the Z32 because the type of clutch used in them is hard to manipulate for a good launch. Evidence of this is Kyle's car on the SGP Racing website. Check it out. You might be surprised by your results at the track...I dunno.

so according to these numbers they are saying that will get beat by a 96 pontiac sunfire gt. but i know for a fact that i can beat this car eveyr single time down a track. i have raced a couple of them and i am 3 cars ahead before i hit 45-50.
something is wierd. i think these numbers might be a little wrong but hey you never know. maybe my car does run a low 16. but if thats the case, its for damn sure no 96 sunfire gt or 89 mitsibishi eclipse gs runs not 15.9.
does someone have a time slip of a stock or fairly stock 300zx N/A? for some verification.

Re: 1/4 time on 2+2

You're definately faster than a friggin sunfire. Goes to show how slow they are.

I took out a 1994 bmw 325is (0-60 in 7.2 stock 1/4 mile in 15.9). But it wasnt any bmw 325is it had ecu, exhaust, and filter (it was an auto). But i beat it with my 300zx 2+2 auto (injen intakes and stillen filter). Wasnt a drivers race cause both cars were auto. I didnt just beat it off the line but 1/4 mile also........all the way up to speed limiter 140 ish. So i think the 1/4 mile times are off....by a lot! So good luck racing and be safe!!!!

I got another race story that might be reinforcement that your 1/4 mile time is off. I raced a supped up bmw...lol....i live with a bunch of preps...well any ways this bmw was a 1996 bmw 328i. It has dinan ecu, a cat back system, k&n air induction system, carbon fiber hood, manifold, and coil overs (his is an auto). Well he wanted to race, i was real hesistant cause he's got all the mods and all i got was intake pipes and filter but being bold i said sure, so we raced. Off the line he beat me till i got to 35 mph then i started to catch up, we both used the power braking technique. At 43-50 i had caught up, 55-60 i started to pass him. I beat him!!!! He killed me off the line but i caught up and beat him. After that race we did roll on starts....lol......he didnt even stand a chance.....60 mph roll on...c'mon i got a highway racer.

hey igota20hpweedeater
thanks for the info. i was pretty sure those numbers are off and if your stories are true then i think we have pretty well proven that the numbers are off by alot. BMW's are quick. quicker than 16 seconds.

i will still be goin to track friday if everything goes as planned. i will post my numbers ASAP.
thanks for the info again.

If u have 90+ 300zx u should expect somewhere in the 15's maybe high 14's with mods like headers, exhaust, and filter.

thats what i thought. i was thinkin mid 15's. i have intake and exhaust so i was thinkin id prolly be down in the 15's. maybe like 15.3 or 15.2. but according to those numbers, with intake and exhaust they are saying i would just now be hittin high 15's. i dont think japanese would try makin a supercar that runs low 16's no matter in what form it is. to me that is not much of a supercar. just my opinion though.
