Tune up?

Now I want to do a tune up to my 88 hatch by myself cuz I heard its a rip off to get it done by a mechanic cuz a lot of the time they dont change what you really need to be changed... If possible can I get a list of all I will need to buy and change on the car to ensure its perfect condition. The car did sit for 2 years so that has to be taken into consideration to. thank you

Re: Tune up?

One more thing. How to get a true cold air intake if possible.

a basic tune up would be:

fuel filter
dist cap
rotor
wires
plugs
oil
tranny fluid
grease up the car suspension, idk if honda does this.
belts
timing belt
waterpump
cv boots if they are all cracked and look like there gonna break

you can order a AEM cold air intake, thats good enough

Re: Tune up?

Is there a chance you may be able to get me some pricing for this stuff. Nothing exact just a round about what it would cost me for the MUST HAVE stuff. Like everything up to tranny fluid.

Re: Tune up?

the prices all depend on the quality of the products you get...like for instance if you wanna get high performance plugs and wires. and also if you were planning on going to the dealer to get these parts or if you wanna go thru a distributor....so what do u wanna do?

Re: Tune up?

in a regualr tune-up you wouldnt replace the timing belt, thats around every 60k miles. basic tune-up would consist of:
Distributor cap - $10
Rotor - $5
Plugs - $4 - $30 depends on quality
Wires - $35
Oil - $5 - 30 depends on quality
Oil Filter - $4
Air Filter - $25
check belts, cv joints, headlights, wipers - free
