I just bought an 04 civic ex. Is there really a break-in period? How careful do I need to be?

cars are usually "broken-in" around 30k miles

its all up too you buddy... lol... just kidding... my car dealer told me to drive it like a granny for at least 1000 miles but recomends to wait till after my first oil change before i start doing any intense driving.. depends on who u talk to i guess
