92 civic cx

I have a 92 civic cx, that really underpowered. I'm not trying to sink a lot of money into it, I just want a little more horsepower for regular driving. What is the best, cheap thing to do? I was thinking intake, but I'm having trouble finding one for the cx. Does the cx have a smaller throttle body? Can a stock throttle body from a dx/ex/lx fit on the cx?

Re: 92 civic cx

The CX does have a smaller TB on it than the others, even smaller than the VX (which is weird cause it's only 22hp more than the CX.) I have the same prob, bought an intake from a friend with an Si but it won't fit. I couldn't even find a coupler that would fit it, but you could double up on the couplers (put one inside the other). I wasn't able to get another TB to fit on my IM, DISCLAIMER - I could just be a dumb ass. You could jsut get another Intake Manifold from another d-series, if no one esle here has been able to replace TB's.

Re: 92 civic cx

I would swap the head with a D16Z6 head. Plus get a D16Y8 head gasket. That will give you a 10.1:1 compression ratio, VTEC, and 131hp. You can find all that you need on Ebay.com and in all, you should spend about $350. I plan to do this with my DX.

Do you need a lot of other parts to make it compatible? how much effort does it take to switch it?

Re: 92 civic cx

You can get complete instructions on how to do it at this link:
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053
This is a great post with step-by-step instructions, pictures, what to expect after you do it, and the best performance upgrades for it. Oh, because to cx tranny is so long, upgrading to a ex/si tranny later would help your acceleration a lot if you do the mini me swap. But, if you keep your cx tranny, this link also has shift points for your transmission.

no no no. u have no idea what u are talking about. the piston on the cx are copmpletely diferent form the pistons on the dx engine which is what the mini me swap(head swap) is for. cx have 8 valves dx have 16 same as the d16z6. pistons in a cx arent made for 16 valve heads.
anyways u might as well just do a complete d16z6 swap. u can pick one up for probably pretty cheap since ppl are puttign dohc in their cars and getting rid of sohc

Straight up man, there are crazy amounts of Si and Ex engine around (unfortunately now the only engines in my area are Dx or I'd do the same thing with my Cx.) Even the jdm d15b vtec $750+ shipping for a 130hp motor from totaljdm, but you could find a d16 for cheaper.

Re: 92 civic cx

hmotorsonline has just the long block for $435+ shipping, but totaljdm has the whole swap (w/tranny) for $750+shipping. I only mentioned the full swap because the Cx tranny sucks unless your just cruising or on the highway, and not looking to bang gears.
