i have found a merkur xr4ti6 that could be had for $1000 that just needs a new fuel pump. should i upgrade from the pod and get it

You mean XR4Ti, right? AFAIK, there's no 6.

Merkur is just another Ford brand, unrelated to Mercury.

XR's are decent little cars. I just sold my 86 Mustang SVO that uses the same 2.3T as the XR and the TurboCoupe.

They're not rockets by any means, but for basic transportation, and as a starting point for a decent road car, it's not bad (especially for $1k). But know that they are NOT drag cars.
