Temperature Reading on the Hot Side

What is the 'normal' range for engine tempurature on the instrument panel gage? For around town driving my gauge was reading just above half way. On a recent trip, running several hours at 80MPH my gauge was reading one mark over half way to hot. When I stopped the temperature went up to the mark, just below the red bar, but came back down when I started rolling again. Does this indicate a problem?

Turned out I had a bad clamp on the bypass hose out of the thermostat housing. The leak was small and on the bottom of the hose, the coolant ran onto the water pump housing and evaporated almost immediately, no smell or puddles. Replaced the clamp and the problem was solved.
