intake installation

I have a 98 ls and have ordered an aem cai part#21-403 and I'm wondering about the installation process. I have heard that you have to remove the bumper or at least remove the right side is this accurate. any details and tips would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I have a set of 98 year taillights that I need to sell if anyone is interested....

yeah when you remove the front bumper it is much easier, i think you can do it without removing it but im not sure

I didn't install mine, but I think you can leave the bumper on and have a friend help you. YOu can instal the top half and the push the filter end up from the bottom. YOU will need a friend to help though.................fISH

i dunno about aem, but i didnt need to take off the bumper for my CAI...and i didnt need a friend. if possible, take the filter off, attach the pipe. Then take off the splash guard on the bottom of the car behind the bumper and in front of the wheel. Maybe 7 screws or something. turn the wheel till u can get the filter to the pipe and attach. put splash guard back on. done. i can do it in about 10 min. first time will take 1 hr +.

There are a few screws across the front top, just under the hood front lip, a couple on the front of the fenders, and some under the splash guard in the wheel well. If you plan on working on your teg a basic shop manual is a must, and will diagram screw locations. You can probably make bumper removal easier by taking out the corner lights first. If it doesnt come off fairly easily, then you missed a screw. you shouldn't have to force it.
This is pretty much the easiest bolt on after tires

DONT take off your bumper. theres no need too, plus it's a pain to take off. all u need to do is take off the splash guard under the right side of the bumper and the splash guard by the right wheel well. Both spash guards are usually held in place by bolts and these plastic screw/rivet looking things. your gonna have to pop them out. theres probably like 10 or more bolts/rivets that u will need to take off. once u get the splash guard off, pull out the air box and the stock filter tubing.
once all the stock peices are out, run the cold air piping to the intake manifold and down to the fender area. DONT install the filter first onto the pipe. your gonna have to run the piping first, then once it's in place, connect the filter. screw everything down (all clamps and rubber mount), install all the splash guards and your done.
i have the AEM cold air intake on my LS and i love it. it really sounds mean after 5K RPM's and it pulls pretty hard too! also it makes this cool whistling sound when u keep the throttle open at a certain point. it sounds like your car is turbocharged and your spooling.


so how much r u selling the tail lights for?

thanx man thats very helpfull. I'm getting the part used and it wont have the hoses, so will the stock hose fit the port on the cai.

I'd like to get 100 + shipping but we might be able to trade some parts...
they are used and do have some minor scratches on them but I'm currently having them buffed and should go away. I'm looking for a clean trade with stereo equipment, glow guages, strut bars, cash

nah man. the stock hose from the crank case vent wont fit on the cold air intake. it's a metal pipe thing, not a rubber hose.
you can either do two things to fix this problem:

1) just plug up the opening for the tube on the cold air intake pipe with a rubber or even duct tape or some silicon. then buy yourself a breather filter from autozone and put it on the crank case vent. if u dont know what a breather filter is, just go to autozone/pepboys etc and ask em for it. it looks like a miniature air intake filter. it also gives the engine bay a nice clean look

2) get some tubing at your local automotive store or even check home depot/ loews to see if they have any tubing

and about the lights, im probably not gonna get em... i forgot im broke as hell =/
