Exclamation 2002 Windstar Driver Power Seat Problem

All,

I have a 2002 Windstar XL. The driver side power seat has just stopped working.

Any suggestion that I can check it by myself? Before I bring it to the store?

Thanks.

David

Re: 2002 Windstar Driver Power Seat Problem

Have you checked the appropriate fuse? It should tell you which one in the owners manual. If that's OK then a check at the switch to see if power is arriving would be in order. If power is there, is it being directed to the proper motor? Haven't worked on any of the newer units but the old ones had 3 different motors to handle the different seat adjustment functions.

Question

Thanks for suggestion.

Here is my question:

I have purchased the user repair manual and browsed through it. No mention any information related to Driver Power Seat.

If anyone one knows which fuse is controled the power seat, could let me know?

Thanks in advance!!

David

Re: 2002 Windstar Driver Power Seat Problem

Good morning. Those service manuals, Haynes, Chilton, etc., are not always the best reference, assuming that's one of the manuals you have. I looked in the owners guide/manual for my '99 LX and it shows the fuse for the LH power seat to be fuse #104 and the RH seat is fuse #122 in the high current distribution box under the hood. They are both 40amp maxi fuses. I don't know if this would be the same for your '02 but if not look in the owners guide/manual under fuses and go from there. Good luck.

Cool Re: Re: 2002 Windstar Driver Power Seat Problem

The fuse is in the power distribution box, #104, it is listed in your owners manual (have to read it carefully).

Unfortunately no one tells you how to get the cover off this thing. I fought with it for approx 1 hour and got the cover off and replaced the fuse. I then figured out that you should not adjust the seat with the car started or the fuse blows, which it promptly did again after I adjusted the seat. At rest I can adjust the seat all I want. Could not get the cover off the next time, but there was some advice on these forums and the auto parts people told me to use a wire hanger to life the clip (impossible to reach on the far side).

Would really like to hear more about removing this cover on these forums, I could use the help.

PS It is a 30 Amp fuse, but not a small one, one of the mid size variety. Easy to find.

PPS Remember to disconnect the battery before you go near this box, listed in the owner's manual as well.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips. I definitely will try it and let you know the result.
