Re: 95 trans am auto past redline and does not shift

About a year ago my firebird yet only a V-6 acted similar. I would start it up and take off after passing 2nd gear it and into third it would not go into 4th no matter how fast i went. I took it into my mechanic and he replaced a transmission default solenid. 10,000 miles later it did it again and he had to do some rewiring he said but all said and dont it ran less than 400 for both times i took it in. My service engine light was also on at the time and my car is a 96

Are you in drive? "D" - because the car will not shift past 3rd in "D", just as it will not shift past 2nd gear with the shifter in the "2" position or first gear in with it in "1".

If you've got it in overdrive "OD" then it will shift up to 4th ("OD" is 4th).

Me too - I only shift into OD on the highway, or when I race. launch in D off the line and into second (or third) - just remember to bump the shifter up into OD before you run out 3rd - I've forgot to do that once and started bouncing off the rev limiter.

Eh, so whats it like to drive a Firebird in Europe?? get any good looks at your car?

aur revoir
