Unhappy help with taillights, instrument cluster and fog lights!

Hey, whenever i turn on my headlights my fog lights, instrument cluster, and taillights don't light up! I have a 97 elantra SE.
My brake lights still light up when i press the brake pedal and my headlights still work fine. I checked all of the fuses and it's driving me nuts because i have no idea what is wrong.....ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Have you checked your tailights with a DVM to see if there is any juice getting through to your tails while your headlights are on?

Re: help with taillights, instrument cluster and fog lights!

If his brakelights work but not the running lights this is not a fuse issue. However if the 97 used a double pole relay one of the contacts maybe damaged. It very well could be just a burnt out primary filiment in the bulb or a shorted line for the primary, since it took out his dash lights too. That's why it is important to establish if there is a potential present.

well thanks for the help guys.....i figured it would be a relay so i checked the fuse box under the hood and swapped the horn relay with the TAIL1 realay.....and the lights all worked fine! The best part is the horn works too! so i don't know if it was just loose or something.....anyways problem fixed and thanks again.

Really glad to be of assistance. A likely reason that your horn still works is that it was operating a double pole relay using only a single contact output. I would recommend replacing the relays none-the-less. These are not very expensive and if they are damaged can only lead to further issues.
