Help, my entire fuel pump assembly bent 90 degrees..

This is way to weird. I put a new fuel pump in the van about 3000 km ago. Reinstalling the unit back into the tank was tricky, it seemed as though the entire unit was too long for the depth of the tank.

Anyways 3000 km go by and the van starts to die on me, i get it home and drop the tank again. The entire assembly bent 90 degrees, meaning it was not picking up any fuel.

I straightened it out again, put it back in. It ran fine for about 1 hour then started acting up again, dropped the tank and...the same thing.

It bends the metal return line that holds the bottom of the pump in place, it does this with force to cause that pipe is not weak, and it rips the end of the rubber fuel line connected to the top of the pump.

What could this be from???
