99 Tahoe Brake booster issues...

On my way home yesterday I lost all power to my brakes. It felt as if I had manual brakes .
I thought it was the master cyl. and changed that...still didn't, work same issue.
I talk to a relative and he said that it sounds like my power booster, so I'm going to give that a shot tomorrow, but how dificult are they to change?

Anyone ever done one of these??? BTW I have 1999 old body 4wd Tahoe.
Thanks.
c

PS Anyone else ever had the orange automatic "PNRD321" indicator stay on after the key is out of the ignition???

I just replaced mine after getting some Q and A from the forum, I found that it wasnt as hard as i thought it was going to be, better recruit some friends to hold one thing while you move another

you will have to remove the mount bolts for the ABS/Combination Valve to allow the Master cylinder to slide off the Booster, if you do this you wont have to disconnect any brake lines,

there are two bolts holding the master cylinder and four bolts inside the car holding the booster on. you might want to get a stubby rachet for the top two bolts. disconnect the vaccum line from the booster ,

the brake push rod needs to be disconnected also, this was the most annoying part, first there is a plastic box resting on the rod inself it swings up if you push on the forward part of the plastic, then there is a metal retainer clip holding a pin in, the clip has two parts, look closely at it and you see that one piece has a tab holding it against the other, slide that one off and the other with release, if you have worked with you door handles the rods are held by the same clips. once thats off you can pull the cylinder forward and pull the master cylinder out.

the booster cost me 85$ after I shopped around, but chose one that had a good warranty. make sure the push rods are the same length. just replace everything in reverse and test the brakes thourghly before driving out in traffic.

I'll review my notes and edit this if i think of anything else

cheers

JD

Haha... they really need to think of something else for that clip. a codder pin, for example, would have worked just fine. But no. I just spent 30 minutes trying to pry the arm off, 20 minutes finding out on here that there's a clip, and another 30 minutes getting the actual clip off.
