SAS Wheels?

I saw a thread whilst searching for threads on SAS and wheels and noticed they were to make wheels. So when are they coming out? If they are released.

Re: SAS Wheels?

PM flyonthewall. That's Chris from SAS. He's also a Moderator. He should be able to give you an answer.

Last I heard he was experimenting with different resins trying to perfect the wheels.

Re: SAS Wheels?

I know he is also working on tires but is having a hard time casting them in rubber. FOTW, how come you don't cast them in resin, like the rest of your parts? Others (esp. light and heavy commercial parts people) do it and I don't think anyone complains, they are easier to sand a flatspot in anyway....

Naw...once painted semi-gloss black, resin tires look just like synthetic rubber tires.

You can also add dyes to the resin to make it black...

And there are different resins with various Shore ratings that mimic the feel of rubber as well.

Re: SAS Wheels?

Guys, all the casting troubles with rims was sorted some weeks ago now. However I just havn't managed to get around to producing the molds for casting several rims at once. I've been casting Tyres for sometime now for a few of my retailers, Dave at Detail and Design In Scale has just received his shipment if anyone cant wait.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Look into the resin aftermarket and you'll see cast resin tires of varying hardness, from VERY hard to almost rubber-like in colores from white, to beige to grey to black. Several companies make rubber-like resin. I have no idea what SAS uses, but I've been able to cast resin wheel/tire combos with no problem.

Bill
