04 GTP tire spin

Woo hoo.... my 1st post.

Anyway, I have a 04 GTP and I find that when I depress the accelerator more than 1/2 way from a complete stop (especially if I am making a left turn) the tires tend to spin. I am currently using the stock tires. Would getting wider rims and tires help?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just got the car so I'm rather n00b'sih, sorry. :P

Thanks!

Re: 04 GTP tire spin

A wider tire is going to give you a larger contact surface, but you could also upgrade to a sticker tire.

BTW, I wouldnt keep doing burnouts/spinning tires when turning left. Thats the best way to destroy a differential.

Thanks for your reply Ripn'. Had no idea spinning while making a turn burns out the differential. :P

If you can believe me, I'm not intentionally doing spin outs.. My previous car is/was a '94 stock Mustang. So the throttle response I get with the GP is a little more than I am used to. Even on straights, I find the car surging from time to time, and I am trying to reduce that too.

I've looked at the GP and won't wider tires stick out more than the side flarings?

Oh.. and what MPG do u see? I'm getting about 14 MPG (mostly city driving), and that's with me slow-pokeing my way through town.

Re: 04 GTP tire spin

Im not sure what the widest tire you could run on stock rims is or what the widest tire period is. I'd try searching on www.clubgp.com

I see 18-21 mostly highway.

Try getting an intake and maybe a cooler tstat. Ive heard that those 2 mods help w/ mileage.

A thermostat and a cold induction intake... would you happen to know how hard it would be to install those 2 items, and will it void my warranty?

Re: 04 GTP tire spin

tstat on a cold motor takes bout 5 min if even.

CAI probably bout an hour since its your first time.

CAI will stand out the most, but if you have to take the car in just reinstall the stock airbox.

Re: 04 GTP tire spin

Yeah I had the same problem when I got my 04GP. My previous car was a 95 Lumina so I wasn't used to the Throttle response either.

It just takes time to realize it is only necessary to use about 1/4 of the throttle when not at the track.

Re: Re: 04 GTP tire spin

Jeff,

I noticed that you have made some significant mods to your 04 GP. What model Magnaflow exhaust did u use? Or even better.... is there a site I could visit to chek out your mods in greater detail? Mahalo.

Re: Re: Re: 04 GTP tire spin

My site is in my sig.

It shows my mods and where to get them except for the exhaust.

I used aluminized offset/center 2.5"ID Magnaflow universal mufflers.

You can find a dealer in your area at the magnaflow website:
http://www.magnaflow.com/03dealer.htm

Goodluck.
