What needs to be done

Ok guys, I've been tossing around the idea of messing around with a hybrid project. What I've narrowed down to is an LS motor swapped into a CRX.

What I want to know is, can I obtain 300 HP with a turbo charged LS engine? I want it to be a street car running on pump gas. Will the stock internals of the engine hold up to the amount of boost it will take to reach 300 HP? If not, how high of a horsepower output can be expected out of a turbo charged stock engine?

Since this is my first turbo car, I was figuring I'd be better off with a prepackaged turbo kit. Are there quality kits out there that will work with this setup I have proposed?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Re: What needs to be done

a stock ls engine can handle up to about 300hp

drag and revhard are alright bolt on kits where each have their strong and weak points. i suggest building your own if you want the best.

yes you can obtain 300hp with a ls motor. if you car is tuned good you can get up to around 400hp on pump gas.

well many say that your internals will hold up to 300hp but you shouldnt go any higher. i wouldnt push the stock internals that high but others have done it before and have gone higher.

and how much hp your will get from a kit will have alot of factors, like the tune, how much psi your running.

if i was you, id look into getting a hondata and have it tuned, a great deal about how much boost and hp your car can handle has alot to do with a good tune, a good tune will get yoru more hp and a more safe motor, a bad tune or no management at all can result in a blown motor or a decrease in hp

Re: What needs to be done

Would the T3/T4 turbo be the best bet? I don't want to wait til 5000 rpm to reach full boost, but I don't want to spool too fast and loose top end.

Would the kit still work - will the piping have the right bends - for that motor in a CRX?

Re: What needs to be done

if you want faster spool go for a .48 a/r and say a 50 or 57 trim. there aren't many TRUE bolt on kits, even if it says it's bolt on modifications still need to be made so don't expect it to come out of the package and you'll be able to put it together with a socket wrench.

Re: What needs to be done

use 90-93 integra axles.
if you have enough power to snap your axles then you'll have to go custom.

Re: What needs to be done

300 horse power isn't enough to snap those, is it?

Re: What needs to be done

300 HP is not a problem for stock axles. Running an LS transmission makes it easier on them, because less gear multiplication through the transmission means you put less actual torque through the axles than you would with an ITR or GSR trans, so unless you plan on some 6500 RPM clutch dumps on 24" slicks off of the 2-step you're going to be fine on the stock axles.
