gsr ecu
i have a 2000 jdm b16a with a 95 gsr tranny set up... i just recently put a 96 gsr ecu and i have 2 questions... my idle is supposed to be at 900 rpms and at idle it keeps reving by itself but not much just jumps back and forth from 900 to about 1200 wanted to know whats causing the problem...second question whats the redline on a stock 96 gsr ecu? thanks

Re: gsr ecu
...where did you get the motor from?...as far as i know there was no 2000 jdm b16a they were only in integra xsi's and civics in the early 90's the only 2000 b16a was usdm...check you tps for the idle surge (or search..."idle surge") and the redline for a stock gsr is 8100 I think...

Re: gsr ecu
i'm just wondering why you're using a b18 ecu with a b16 engine ... wondering how your air/fuel is seeing if you're running too rich.

Re: gsr ecu
yeah why is that...it is always better to use the ecu of the head of the engine in this case b16a head b16a ecu I dont think the gsr ecu will benefit you in the area of performance as much as the b16a ecu would be able to

things that would cause the idle to go up and down could be a vacuum leak or a bad idle air control valve. to check for a vacuum leak, get some brake spray and spray it in the area of the manifold. quick short bursts. if the idle drops quick, like it is starving for air, which it is doing then you have a leak. other then that it is possibly the iac. it could be clogged or bad. its job is to warm up the car. so it holds the idle high for a little until its sensor tells it that the coolant is up to a certain temp and then it drops the idle. in your case it goes between both. it isnt certain what to do. that is why it could need a cleaning or be replaced. since the motor is new it could be just dirty. what i would do is pull the idle screw out and clean that and service the throttle body as well. and then set the idle back to 750 with no lights or any other idle up components on.
also using a gsr ecu is most likely not your problem. unless it is bad. you can use that ecu or some other choices. what year is your car? and B1SiR6A they made b16's all the way up until 2000 in japan. they came in ek4's.

dont change the ignition system. the stock one works just fine. and no need to change the distributor.
are you haveing any other runablity problems? another question, where did the trans come from? you didnt buy a change over?

Re: gsr ecu
sounds like a vacum leak or a fucked up iac sensor

ok another thing, are you sure it is a 96 gsr ecu. a 96 will not plug directly in. you would need to run a harness converter.
95 is still obd-1 and 96+ = obd-2.
