car wont start after headgasket replacement

ok, me and a buddy replaced his head gasket, got it all back together....and for some reason we cant get it to start....we have spark, and when we loosen the fuel line going to the throttlebody we have gas pressure...

my only guess is that we put the wrong cylinder on tdc when we put it back together.....what cylinder do i get to tdc? and if i did get it backwardswouldnt we have heard valves being thrashed when trying to start it?

it kinda acts like it wants to start, but it wont....
i dont think so...but is it possable to put the dizzy on 180 degrees wrong? if i remember correctly the notch on the cam is offset so that cannot do that..

all the plugs are in correct order, but we cant even get it to start with starting fluid....and that pretty bad...

anyone got any ideas?

that you in advance!

Re: car wont start after headgasket replacement

#1 piston should be on TDC the one closest to the cam gear. Dizzy cant be 180 off it only goes one way. line up the marks on the lower pully and then on the cam then put the timing belt on you should be right on then.

hmmm, everytime i work on something complicated, the simple things always mess me up....

So maybe you're over-looking something simple. Backtrack and see if you missed something or forgot a step.

And if you can't find the problem by next week, just bring it to a mechanic and maybe he can figure it out.

Did you take out every spark plug? Make sure theres not oil on any of them and if there is, your head is probably warped. And also, after cranking it for a while, take out the plugs and see if you can smell gas on them, maybe your injectors arent firing for some reason.
