I am a japanese-american and my father is a die-hard Nissan fan (he owns 2 350Z's). I just turned 15, and he bought me a Nissan Maxima 3.5, and i love it. Not to show bias to Japanese engineered cars, but my Maxima is one fine peice of craftsmanship, so I plan to buy lot's more Jap-imported cars. Anyways, My town holds an event every friday called the 4-banger shootout, and lots of locals and some of my freinds are participating. I want to know the best 4 cylinder, Japanese imported car with the widest range of upgrades, and the most power potential.

Re: Best Japanese Import ( i take offense to the term "rice")
The fastest Japanese 4-bangers on the American market are the Impreza WRX STi, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, and the Honda S2000. However, all of these are fairly new and therefore quite expensive. If you wanna go used, your best bets are the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX, the Nissan 240SX with a JDM SR20DET engine swap, and the Toyota MR2 Turbo. However, keep in mind that although the Eclipse GSX has a Japanese name, it was built in America, rolling off the very same assembly line as the Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon (both Chrysler Corporation companies).
