what is the stock boost on a 98 gst, how much can that be increased without major mod

hey out there, I just bought a 98 gst, completly stock, looking for some cheap/quick horsepower, what should i do first for mods, i don't got a lot of money, a long with that i am not looking for a street racing machine, but i would like to give her a little xtra nutz for those days when i feel like pissing off the cops. I am pretty mechincaly inclined, however a turbo engine is new to me, any suggestion to tweak this bitch would be great, thanks a lot

there're some cheap/free mods you can find on www.Vfaq.com one of them is the dump tube hack which clears out %45 of intake area that blocks the intake tube. also getting a aftermarket air filter kit would run you about $250. this way your car will breath in better. and if you can dish out little more cash and mod your exaust it would be even better.

I hope that was a typo, because you can get an air filter for $20 and an intake pipe for $20 home made, or under $100 for a Dejon.

The major mods necessary for raising boost are:
1) air filter (intake pipe is optional)
2) aftermarket boost gauge (so you are not blowing your turbo or your engine)
3) aftermarket bov (stock plastic one leaks if it is a 2g dsm)
4) manual boost controller

With these items you can raise boost according to your driving preferences and engine life expectancy

Its cant really "blow" anything with the stock turbo. I wouldnt go past 16 psi. (fuel cut). Search the forum, theres tons of info on all the basic mods.

Stock boost is around 14 psi on a 2g. 16 is the highest boost level for the T25 that is still efficienct enough to run on pump gas without excessive knock.

stock T25 delivers about 14psi. besides getting a boost controller, another easy and free mod is to remove the BCS (boost control solenoid) which should give you an extra 1 psi. 16 is the safest boost to run for your everyday driving. correct me if i am wrong, but T25 can handle up to 20. of course, that doesn't mean you should run at 20. i am currently running 17, sometimes even 18psi without a BC due to boost creep. i am still praying everday that i don't hit a knock, or cut in fuel.

nope, stock is "around" 14 with the boost controler limiter (BSC) on. take that shit off if you can! LOL

I made a manual boost controller and have it set at 13psi for rollin around the city. when i did that i noticed a decent power gain. and i was told by a few fellow DSMers that stock psi is like 7 or so.

The actuator has a 7 psi spring, so thats where that number comes from. The stock BCS sets boost to around 14 though. It varies from car to car. Mine was closer to 15, and spiked to 17 with a 1g BOV. Man, that was a long time ago...

My car does about 7-8psi off spring, and hits 20 exactly at the highest boost. Is 20psi normal Kevin? I think I might have a/some boost leaks as well.
