Question advice? buy '77 thunderbird?

I'm considering buying a '77 thunderbird, looking at it on Wednesday. The current owner claims that it's reliable and the only immediate work it needs is a new water pump. I love the look and feel of the t-bird, but my car knowledge is incredibly limited. Am I getting myself in over my head? What are some things I should look out for in deciding whether or not to buy? Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Siera

Drive it over to your mechanic to have a used car checkout done.
