Insurance
I'm sixteen and i'm looking for an rx-7. The insurance on the FD's are sky high. The FC's might be better, but they still must be high because they are sports cars too, right? My dad says i should get an RSX, but i'm a big fan of the rotary. The FD's are down in price and the insurance is cheaper than the RSX Type S according to allstate insurance. My questions are.........how bad is the insurance on RX-7's. Overall, how reliable are they, and are they getting outdated compared to newer ricers like the RSX?

Re: Insurance
Overall, they are not reliable. No offense but stay away from that FD. You'll kill IT or YOURSELF.

Re: Insurance
The NA FC's are the best rotary beginner car. They can last a long time and are fun to drive. I just autocrossed mine again today actually. The gas milage isn't the greatest. I get about 17-20 with mixed highway and city driving while getting on it often. I wouldn't say the rx-7 as a car is outdated by the newer ones, but it's electronics are. If you wanted a sweet beginner rx-7 the 89 GTUs is a option striped model with a N/A engine a beefed up drivetrain. The rear end is also sweet with LSD and low gearing for ripping through the gears. I wish I got one of those.

Re: Insurance
I'm 17 and have 1 ticket on my record, I pay 98 bucks a month for insurance on my FC non-turbo, I check on a FC TII and its $200 a month, thats why I'm planning on swapping the TII engine into a NA shell. hope that helps
and a GTUs would be sweet to have... too bad my 91 base model didn't come with an LSD

Re: Insurance
You'd kill it because they need constant attention and even then they crap out. You'd kill yourself because they are beasts of a car.

Re: Insurance
Thanks for the tips. I'm now aiming for an FC GTU. Maybe I'll get an FD later on in my life.

Re: Insurance
Hey BlueDragon871, how much did you get your FD for? What kind of reliability problems did you have and was it overall a good buy?

Re: Insurance
yes a body kit and rims seeing as how im basically done with modifications for now seeing as i have
coilovers front and rear struts brake pads calipers rebuilt and large street ported rotary rebuilt turbos knock sensor reliablity mods standalone ecu clutch and flywheel and misc interior mods, gauges seats etc etc so thier is no need for ur comment soyo, seems to me that u were being a wise ass to me and thats uncalled for, i thoguht the rotary community was friendly i bought my fd(meaning no help from mom and dad for any of this car including insurance) for 7000, it had a detonated engine and sum bumps and bruises, it was kind of a rip, but it was close so i didnt care |

Re: Insurance
thanks for over posting on a single question to make yourself look smart
and bluedragonballz or whatever, I'm entitled to not like bodykits if I don't wanna like them, I don't care what your mods are or who paid for your car and insurance... its not like you have to uphold a reputation on an internet forum. I simply said what I said because I don't like bodykits and I usually consider big chrome wheels to be "rims" where as I call anything else wheels... but like I said no one cares, it doesn't matter, so just don't worry about it
