shadow help

im in the market for a dodge shadow. i found one for 600 dollars the underbody is very clean and it looks like the person who owned it knew how to take care of it.
thier is a guage going down the side of it from a parking lot idiot, thier is a little bit of fluid comming from the flywheel area and a little comming from the transmission pan. is this a normal thing or does it look like the person beat the car? also any other things to look for when i go back thier?

also i know that mitsubishi is the saame company so why is it not a popular mod to put in the eclipse motor?

Tranny leaks are common and fixable (as long as you don't EVER overtighten) Rear main (oil) seal is harder, but unusual. It may be leeching tranny fluid at the main seal, that's just either a front seal (trans must be removed) or just the pan leak leeching into the bellhousing from driving.

A shadow is NOT a Mitsubishi And is NOT the same company, nor is the motor (thank god) unless you have a 3.0 V6?? which I'm pretty sure was never put in a Shadow...

Nice car, but don't expect super performance out of it.
Just a decent and reliable simple car.

I have a friend with a 3.0L 5-speed Shadow ES. He bought it wrecked and hasn't yet had time to repair it. There are a few of the V6 cars around here, more Dusters that Shadows. They're really fun cars, anyways.

ok so i took this shadow out for a ride today and it tapped really bad, is that a common thing with these motors or is this one gone? also how much is a rebuilt turbo motor?

Assuming it has a 4 cyl, did it sound like a deisel? A "knocking" sound that resembles a large truck deisel engine is caused by the sides of the pistons being worn down and slapping back and forth in the cylinders. Engines with piston slap can last indefinitely with minimal oil consumption and no additional problems other than the noise (I know, I had one.) If it had a rod knock, it needs a rebuild; a friend gave me an estimate of about a thousand dollars for a complete 2.2 turbo rebuild.

it wasn't a turbo but it would have been if the motor wasn't gone

Just for info:
Piston slap and broken skirts on 2.2/2.5L motors comes from the car beng beat upon severely, and although it can "hold up forever" like that, the block is usually damaged beyond reasonable rebuilding.

It doesn't cost $1000 to rebuild a 2.2 or 2.5, unless it's a turbo, and you are not using stock components.
The last 2.5L stock motor I did (May '04) cost a total of $450, including everything (pistons,cam,followers valve job,bearings, rings, gaskets and even a new reman distributor). This is without labor. But you can assemble one in about 2 hours, and remove/install it in about 2 hours (up to 1992 these are not the "new" 2.5L motors). So at $45 a labor hour, you can do one in less than one 8 hour day, at a cost of $450 (plus tax..) and $270 in labor for a grand total of $720. Of course, I do all the labor, and don't charge $45.00 an hour, but I'm not a mechanic and don't own or work at a shop. This is just a hobby for me.

wow these engines are that basic that you can just rip it apart and put it back together in a day......
i can't even take out all the bolts on my engine in 2 hours never mind get it out and in again in a day

ill give honda credit my .5l is rediculously fast and very very powerfull ( it strikes fear in peoples hearts) and its very simple.....
