Air Conditioner problems

Hi, i just bought a 1992 prelude. The air conditioner is not blowing out cold air and i was wondering if it is my condenser going out or if it needs to be recharged. It blows out hot air fine but the AC light sometimes stays on and other times it doesn't. I don't know if that helps you all diagnose my prob but and help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Air Conditioner problems

If the light goes on and off, you need to check for a broken or chaffing wire from the compressor, or the compressor relay might be going bad. The clutch on the compressor is a big electro-magnet, when you push the A/C button it sends 12 volts to the clutch and energizes it on. you can check it with the car off by taking two wires and hooking them to the battery and touching them to the contacts of the compressor to see if it is energizing. If it is then leave it hooked un and see if it is blowing cold air. That is a start. let me know how it goes and I will walk you through the rest.

Re: Air Conditioner problems

You may have more than one problem. 1. AC compressor Clutch relay contacts burned (common). 2. The male pin connectors on the ventilation selector may have a cold solder joint (common). 3. 100 other AC problems. Does the clutch center turn when the ac light is on?
