Talking Water pump removal tools

I have a 1996 Aurora. My water pump has gone out. I know that I will need a "special tool" to remove it. However, outside of online, I have not been able to find anyone who even knows what I am talking about. Must be something to do with Alabama. Armed with parts numbers even, I have been told everything from I don't need it to make one myself. I have read in previous posts that some have rented this "special tool"--but from where. My local GM dealer of course says they are the only one around here that has it. And of course they do no rent...I'll have to bring it in. I am under pressure as I have to be back at work soon and do not have time to wait for online. Is there any possible way to do it without.... Please help...

Re: Water pump removal tools

I purchased one off ebay when I first purchased my Aurora. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. Have you checked AutoZone? Here in Ohio they will loan you special tools that are needed for auto repairs. All they do is charge your credit card and credit it when you bring the tool back. Id say that is your best bet to get the tool quickly!

Re: Water pump removal tools

I have, my father suggested them...however when I called they had no idea what I was talking about. They were the one that said I didn't need a special tool... that it was just 97-99. Does the tool have a "name" I just have asked for the tool that removes the water pump from a northstar 4.0

Thanks so much for your help. It is greatly appreciated. My father is out now trying to help find something. He thinks maybe a MAN can get more accomplished. We shall see...
