carbon fiber decal

hi, i read the FAQ on c/f decals and i have some questions to ask...what method do i need to use if i try to apply the c/f decal to the whole car? not just the seat...is it ok if i just cut like a general shape of the area i want the decal on and stick the excess to the backside of the car body, since people are not going to see that anyway? also just another question, not about the c/f decal though..where can i get some 1/12 rims? thanks

Re: carbon fiber decal

You can use the method in the 'how to' to create a template for any part you want to cover, the technique remains the same, just the shape of the part changes.

What type of 1/12 rims?

Re: carbon fiber decal

For the excess CF cut it, dont just try to hide it. You need to get some microsol too.

Have you checked freakrays CF tutorial? That may help you out, yes its for a seat, but you could get the idea of what to do to CF a whole body.

1/12 rims, RC rims.

Re: carbon fiber decal

for a full body, you will need a lot of microsol and a very good quality decal, don't buy cheap

Have you checked out the tutorial yet?
I mention in the tutorial which C/F decals I have found to be the best ones.

Re: carbon fiber decal

btw if you have never worked with CF, it might be a bad idea to try to make a Full CF body !

Most of the modeller have big problem doing a CF hood without problem.

as for the brand, I used SAS one and Museum Collection. Even if both product are very good, Meseum Collection are a bit stronger, while SAS will react to Microsol easier

Re: Re: carbon fiber decal

hi, i got another question about c/f decal..if i want to put other decals on the c/f decal (say...on the c/f hood)...do i put the decals directly on the c/f decal? or clearcoat the c/f decal first and then put the other decals on, and clearcoat everything after i am done? also can i use rubbing compound on c/f decals (with clearcoat) to make it shiny? thanks

Re: carbon fiber decal

Don't use rubbing compound on C/F decal, you'll ruin it, clear coat the C/F decal first.
It's probably safer to clear the C/F decal then apply the second lot of decals, but not necessary.

No, their 1/18th. Your thinking of Mini Z's or XMODS. IF your looking for stylish rims, don't look on the R/C market. 1/12 R/C car rims look awful. TRy using 1/10th scale rims and see if that will work.
