92 Elantra Condenser Fan/Radiator Fan
My Condenser fan and radiator fans don't come on when I turn on the A/C. The radiator fan does come on when it gets up to temperature. I checked all of the relays and they are good. I jumped the contacts in the relay box and the fans came on. I'm worried about burning up my compressor and condensor so I only run the A/C when I am on the freeway (the compressor works fine). I changed the two thermo switches that screw in the bottom of the radiator. Still the fans don't come on. I have come to the conclusion that whatever energizes the fan relays is not doing so (like I said I jumped the contacts and the fans came on). I'm out of ideas. Please help!

I don't know if Jake's trouble was ever solved, but I would like to revive this thread. I have a 2000 Elantra with 131K on it and the engine heats up when I am sitting in traffic. We live in Tucson, so it doesn't help that is is already hotter than an oven outside.
I checked the radiator fan on the left side (driver's side) and it doesn't come on when the car gets up to temp. The right side fan comes on, but apparently this isn't enough to keep the engine cool as the gauge moves up past halfway. I had the termostat replaced in Dec 2003 when it was overheating uncontrollably. That solved the problem for a while, but now when traffic is slow it heats up. I run the vent to bring the temp down, but it heats right back up if I turn it off. As you can tell, I'm no mechanic so any help would be much appreciated. One other thing, the A/C seems to be intermitant, ie. it will kick on and off for no apparent reason, cool one minute and then nothing. Thanks... |

Re: 92 Elantra Condenser Fan/Radiator Fan
PCM controlls fans. It would be PCM problem or the wire connecting PCM and fan motor.
