'94 - turn signal problem

Hi all,

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1994 Buick Regal Custom with about 60k miles. Recently, the turn signal has had an annoying little malfunction. The signals still work when I push on the signal lever (ie, for a lane change), but do not work when the lever is fully engaged (click)

Anyone had this problem? Is there an easy fix ?

Thanks.

Sorry, there is no easy fix for your problem. The turn signal switch will have to be replaced. They are common on these vehicles.
Good Luck.

Re: '94 - turn signal problem

I had same problem on my '94. As PCV stated, sounds like your turn signal switch. It requires that you use a steering wheel puller to remove the switch. If you notice, our '94 column is solid, not a pieced section. The "switch" is a round item. Notice well the location of the horn mechanism parts too when replacing. Mine works fine 158,000 and running strong.

Re: '94 - turn signal problem

Does it click and then stop working? I'm no Buick expert, but that seems odd as it's usually (in most cars anyway) the same single electrical contact for turning and lane change. The only difference is the physical holding mechanism (the click) in the steering column that holds it in place till the steering wheel is turned the other direction.

Sounds like the physical turn signal mechanism will have to be replaced like they said. And sadly, like they said, it will require you remove the steering wheel to acess it. I hope you dont have airbags. It can be tricky job because if all the extra junk they cram into that area (ie. cuise and wipers) There are also spring loaded contacts, wires, small guide pins, and a real IQ test to put the steering wheel back on straight.

Personaly, I'd just take it in. It should only take a good mechanic a couple hours if they have the parts and the right tools.

I have a similar problem with my 94 regal.
When it gets really humid out, the left blinker does not always blink.
I have to pull the lever toward me as if I am turning on the high beams and sometimes it will flash.
I have had the blinker switch thing replaced and it worked for a while but went bad again.
