85 Dodge Ram 150 4x4 318 - shuts off with A/C
I just bought a 1985 4x4 and and is working great except in one area. If I turn on the air condition (and it blows great cold air) the truck wants to turn off and half the times it does. I am not a mechanic but I know the air compressor does reruire some power from the engine when engaged but why would it kill the engine? Could it be an idle problem. This is the first vehicle I have ever had with a carb and Im now sure how to adjust/test/repair it.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to approach my problem? Where should I look first? Thanks in advance. |

The Is A Idle Sylnoid On The Side Of The Carberator Linkage On The Left Side Front That Has Gone Bad. There Is Either 2 Or 4 Prongs On It. Once You Find It, Replace It. That Should Solve Your Problem
