Angry HELP!!! Rough Rider CAV!!

When the engine is cold, and the car is started, the car starts very rough and shakes a bit. It sounds like the car wants to die, but it won't. When beginning to drive, the car is not very responsive to stepping on the gas. The Check Engine like comes on, and the code from autozone tells me there is an error with the EGR valve (Just replaced about a month ago) and spark timing control!?!? After driving about 15min, the engine is warm and runs a little smoother but still likes to hesitate. The engine light also goes off. PLease help with ANY advice possible!! THANKS!!!

I will assume that this car is fuel injected???
What year and engine?
Clean and check your IAC valve. they are prone to carbon build up. You may also check the TPS, MAP sensor, and the oxygen sensor. Most can be checked before you replace them. You may also try some fuel injection cleaner. Good Luck.

It is fuel injected, with a 2.2L engine. I have tried fuel injector cleaner in about 5 different bottles. Grrrr.... Oh yeah, It does have 150K on it...

Re: HELP!!! Rough Rider CAV!!

Pull the EGR off, and shoot some carb cleaner into the engine on the backside of the EGR. You will get a carbon build up and if a piece gets knocked loose it will jam the valve open/closed. Also check the egr for proper functiona dn vacuum lines placement....

Re: HELP!!! Rough Rider CAV!!

Actually, i would take the hose off the EGR valve and see if it makes a difference(gets worse) because if it does then it's possible not the EGR valve. and the way it sounds, its the O2 sensor, i had the same problem with my 88' 2.0

Re: HELP!!! Rough Rider CAV!!

this sounds like the exact same thing i had a problem with my 99 sedan. It was during the winter and all of a sudden it started up like shit one day and i only noticed it at first because of my exhaust being loud from the muffler. I was like that for a few days but it was only on days with temps of -20. So i thought nothing but it grew worse. I took it to the dealership. They came back saying i sheared off a spark plug wire and was only firing on 3 cylanders. when it was ideling hard. So i got new wires put on, fuel injection cleaning and my connection to my batter clean and added 100% pure chrome washers.problem was fixed and car ran like new afterwards. Your problem may be different.
