Ls/vtec

i need to know sumthing. i keep hearign bout LS/VTEC. is that the LS engine B18B1. from the 3rd gen integra. and convert it to vtec. if so, how many HP gain to u get from that and if i get my integra LS Auto, is it better to do it that way instead to swaping for a gsr engine. i plan on not doing up the engien full on but if this is one way to do it up, imight and is it cheaper to do then the swap to a gsr.

and does any one have a link to what to get, a list on what do i need to successfully do the vtec conversion. also will the LS engine run like a normal vtec engine,

thanks

Re: Ls/vtec

Most say it is cheaper, but it realy is not. Your LS block is not built for high RPM's, but the vtec head you put on will be. So you will want to rev to 8 grand and the block will want to through a rod. So to do it right, you have to have your block built up and in the end you might have saved money just going turbo...............fish.

Re: Ls/vtec

YOu don't have to have your block built. THe ls block will handle 8 grand. Of course it would be good to build it but you don't have to. and even if you built the block with new pistons and rods, it would still be cheaper than a gsr swap. A ls/vtec will beat a slightly modded gsr. But you have to have it done right. What you need to do is do a search. There is tons of info on this topic as it comes up weekly. So do a search you will find out everything you need to know.

I had an integra with a built LS/Vtec and it wasnt done right the first time because any Joe Schmoe cannot just throw the LS block onto the GSR head and make it work. You need high compression gaskets and little junk like that, plus it should be built with aftermarket pistons, rings, etc, if u want to do it right. I would suggest just switching in the B18C1 or C5 (if u can afford it) because paying a good mechanic and all that to tune the frankenstein motor would probably be just as bad. If the LS/Vtec isnt done correctly then it can leave u with a fast yet sloppy motor that u wish u didnt have. My 2 cents.

hey guy say that u have to build up ur block to handle what the gsr head can put out....so would a stroker kit be a good idea to do?Also if i did the ls/vtech and a stroker kit what am i looking at around for spec.'s on the motor? hp-? torque-? redline-? stuff like that.

Re: Ls/vtec

When you do a search for vtec or ls/vtec, ensure you spell it vtec and not vtech. vtehc is a phone.

Re: Ls/vtec

from all the research i have done, this CAN be a great motor, IF it is done right. make sure you have a good mechanic. i am also considering this swap

Re: Ls/vtec

Well, I am guessing at this and haven't done any research so bear with me. I would predict around 210-220hp (if done right with top notch reliable parts), dont know about torque, and redline is still gonna be high just because of a honda motor and gsr head, so around 7-8.5

Re: Ls/vtec

In one of those first post it says when you rev up to 8 grand it will want to throw a rod. What about an LS auto where the redline is 6.5 or 6? (can't remember which) Would it be safer to make the conversion than with a manual? Assuming that a new head gasket, rings, etc... where still installed?

Re: Ls/vtec

I had an ls before my gsr, and it red lined at just under 7 grand. Also ls/vtec with no other mods will not be putting out 210, more like 190hp giver or take about 5.
