Can this be possible?

Someone at my school owns a 944, not sure on the year. He hasn't done any modifications to it except a crappy pipe. The other day he was bragging that he was racing someone on the highway and he hit 160 mph and was still in fourth gear. This sounds like exageration to me but he had some other people vouching for him. Can anyone tell me if going 160 in 4th possible in a 944?

Re: Can this be possible?

What 944 trim? 944, S, S2, Turbo, Turbo S?

If it is a Turbo or Turbo S yes he can hit 160MPH with minor mods. On the Turbo he would have to chip it so he didnt redline it to hit 160MPH but onthe Turbo S he would hit it stock if the motor was runnin strong.

He wouldnt do 160MPH in none of those in 4th gear.

Thngs with firends is they will lie for you.

I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure that he has the basic 944. Either way he was still lying about the 4th gear part. Thanks for the info.

Re: Can this be possible?

944 speedometers seem to read high above 100 mph...If he was readlining 5th it might have read close to 155 maybe...but I doubt he could go over 140 in an n/a

Re: Can this be possible?

160 kmph = 100 mph
In 4th gear that's very possible.

Re: Can this be possible?

The fastest ive ever gotten my N/A 944 (stock) is 128 and change. According to one of those digital speedos. That hook up like a radar detector and tell you all the MPH, lateral Accel, 0-60 and 60-0 info.
Im positive it'll go faster judging by the tach. But you need one hell of an open stretch of road ( East West Expressway here in Orlando for me, 3:00 AM yesterday morning)

Re: Can this be possible?

Also I agree with pearldrum about the speedo. Mines right on until around 110-120 then it starts reading about 5-10 miles high
