Took my stock (engine-wise) turbo to 140 for fun one day, I still had a little bit of room to go with my RPMS and boost gauge was all the way up. Definetly felt a little shaky and uncomfortable though.

Re: topped out the mr2?

The Turbo MR2 was rated for 150 mph top speed ... I wouldn't go above 115 without proper suspenion and tires.

Re: topped out the mr2?

The "lift off" feeling goes away with a proper suspension set up.

Re: topped out the mr2?

Havent Cracked 180 K's In Mine Yet But Jap Spec So Don't Think I Can Without An Overide. Had It Airborn At 140-150 On A Crest And Sits Really Nice At 170 So I Can't See It Suddenly Lifting... Yop Spd Meant To Be Round 260 (160mph) But Toyota Reckon Shouldn't Cruise Prolonged Over 210 (130mph) Or It Will "overheat". Thats A Standard Jap Spec Turbo, Trd Springs 2" Lower, 225(215front I Think)/50r16's. Windy Back Road, End Up Losing The Brakes Completely .... Anyone Know A Decent Brake Kit?

was the point of the adjustable spoiler in 1998 the reason to get rid of the "lifting" feeling?

would it help if you had the border/madpsi bonnet to increase downforce?

Re: topped out the mr2?

DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE BORDER/MADPSI BONNET (COOL THOUGH HUH? IT'S ON MY TOY LIST THAT'S FOR SURE) I DON'T THINK IT WOULD MAKE A huge DIFFERENCE TO DOWNFORCE... MAYBE A LITTLE THOUGH. THE REAR SPOILER MIGHT HOLD THE BACK DOWN MORE BUT MINE STAYS PRETTY WELL DOWN AND I HAVE THE OLD ONE... THE ENGINES IN THE BACK UNLIKE MOST CARS... ALSO IN MY EXPERIENCE THE "LIGHT" OR "FLOATY" FEELING YOU GET IN MOST CARS IS FROM FRONT END LIFT CAUSING LIGHT STEERING AND A LACK OF GRIP AND FEEDBACK. SO I THINK THE FRONT WOULD BE THE BEST FOCUS AREA... SUSPENSION MAYBE? ALSO REMEMBER THE REAR SUSPENSION WAS CHANGED EARLY IN THE PIECE... THINK THAT MAY HAVE HELPED CAUSE THE EARLY SW20'S HAD A BIT OF A REP FOR BEING HARD TO DRIVE HARD. I LOVE MINE THOUGH.... I FIGURE I JUST HAVE TO PUT IT SIDEWAYS BEFORE IT PUTS ME SIDEWAYS... THAT WAY THERES NO SURPRISES....

AFAIA gearing makes the top speed about 255 kph on the MKII turbo. Iv'e been a TAD past the 180 kph on my speedo...didn't feel to stable so didn't stay there for long.

Cheers

Re: topped out the mr2?

Regardless of what speed you are cruising at, the MKII MR2 should not overheat with extended driving. Our cooling system is way over enginneered. If you are overheating, your system is either not bled properly or your have a problem.

The best place to start in stabilisingthe car at higher speeds is properly lowering the car and getting a front spoiler (either the 93+ ro one of hte aftermarkets).

Re: topped out the mr2?

yeah, i've been sorting out cooling probs recently. but i read about the cruising thing somewhere... theres nowhere round here to even TRY and cruise at that speed to find out....

got 180 last night, just overtaking cars but it still felt fine... only lift was from big bumps and dips in the road (roads suck round here). didn't feel like my turbo was working quite right though...
