can honda prelude be mounted in 2000 civic

I currently own a 2000 civic DX. I would like to swap engine with a honda prelude. (DOHC v-tech) I found that this engine provides you with 40 more HP then the civic Si engine. Do you think that this is a better choice then just putting the civic DOHC V-tech. If so, what would I need to mount it, and with year range in the preludes would fit the 2000 civic.2000 civic with honda prelude engine.

Which year honda prelude DOHC V-TECH engine would fit in a 2000 civic DX, and what would I need to mount it. Do you think that is better then just installing the DOHC V-tech engine from a civic SI.......the prelude engine has a additional 40 HP

Re: can honda prelude be mounted in 2000 civic

ive seen the little h in the forums about a million gillion times now, but anyway, prelude engines, the h22, are a 2.2 liter and will need massive modification to fit ur civic because its a lot bigger. the shop will have to remove your a/c and move around other stuff. not to mention that the engine cost around 3-4k. then the 1-2k for mounting and swapping

Umm... actually I do believe the H22 will drop right in with engine mounts, except you will probally want new suspension to handle the weight. Or so I've heard :P

The H22 is fast, but then you've got a bunch of extra weight which will reduce handling. I'd put a B series in, but it depends on what you want to do.

Also, if you would look around before you post, theres a HUGE amount of swap information online. For one, google, and at the top of this forum. *rolls eyes*

Re: can honda prelude be mounted in 2000 civic

There is not a "huge" amount of modification needed. The hardest part is getting the shift linkage setup installed. The next hardest is getting the motor up in the engine bay. And no, they do not cost $3-4k. You can get a complete swap for damn near $2100.

I dont think I will go back to B series for a long time..

And no, I really have not noticed the extra weight of the motor causing a problem. The motor rests behind the front driveline, moving the center of gravity back some. Awsome setup to run.

Have you ever physically swapped an H22 into a Civic? Have you ever driven a Civic with an H22? It's hardly any different (if at all) than if it had a B16 swapped in. Getting a pair of Civic Si or any Integra front suspension from a junkyard for about $100 will raise the front back up just right and feel fine. For all-motor Civic apps. the H22 reigns because no other engine is as cheap for the amount of power you get, and for some spare change the suspension problem is easily fixed.
