whats the deal

so i have a crx right now but i am selling it to get a zx3. i have spent a good deal of time on the honda boards and now i am starting to spend some time here. I have noticed that there is a whole bunch of random import bashing with little or no evidence to back any of it up, and honestly it makes you all sound like a bunch of racist rednecks, "merican muscle merican muscle". no one really bashes you guys in their forums, but it seems to me like you guys are really uptight about this whole import thing. sure with very few exceptions a freaking beastly v8 will kill any i4 but occasionaly it will be reversed and i think that is something to be commended. i guess thats it and i am thinking this was a waste of my time cause everyone will just jump on me with there merican muscle but i guess i gotta give it a shot.

Re: whats the deal

Yea actually it does. But i dont hear anything to that extent, i just hear ahhh damn ricers i hate ricers blah blah blah. I just mind my own, and even though I have a new project car (a zx5), I am using alot of familiar products (Apex'i, Injen etc..), because when its all said and done, my car will smoke any that challenge it

Most people put down imports because they're really more frustrated by their drivers. After Fast and the Furious and such, all these young kids went out, spent Daddy's money or their own money on a pocket rocket Honda and suped it up, started driving it around thinking the car was hot shit, don't know how to drive and in their ignorance picked street races they shouldn't have and have ended up killing people.

I'm not saying young guys with Daddy's Trans Am for example aren't doing anything different, i just feel you should put your money where your motor is instead of shooting off your mouth over a civic with 100lbs of stickers and fart can muffler thinking you're all rough and BS like that.

Those people piss me right off.

I also can't stand people that say American cars are crap. American cars have the same quality and longevity as import cars. Unfortunately, in general mind you, people don't take care of domestics like they should. They beat the hell out of them, so the car turns into crap for the poor soul that owns it next.

With imports, when the car is bought new, their maintence schedule is that car's 'Bible'. They don't follow it to the tee, the warranty becomes void and the car isn't worth shit. I don't think those cars are worth anywhere near they are selling for. An '88 CRX with over 400,000km on it selling for 12 grand (yes, that's the market in parts of Canada) is bull. What's an '88 Ford Escort with over 400,000km on it worth? It's not worth the gas in the tank!

I like American cars because the metal they're made of is of better quality, thus safer. They're built to last. Look at my car, it's tough as nails, it's 22 years old, and is in better shape then many 3 year old cars (imported and domestic) that you see today.

I also like American built cars because the ergonomics are there. Try drving a civic in the winter time and turning on the radio without turning on the washer fluid, the CD player and heater with one gloved finger. You sure as heck can't make that error in the Focus, it's ergonomics are by FAR superior.

Also, i'm 6 foot 4 inches tall. Fit me into an import and get 3-4 other people in the car with me. Good Luck! In domestic cars (specifically the Focus and anything bigger) i can actually do that.

So it's not that we all rag on imports, they just have a bad rep based on the Fast and Furious crazed young kids, and my own personal experience is why i don't like them. Don't get me wrong, they're great cars, but not suited for most people of my size and build.

One other point: With domestic cars you at least get something a little different. With Imports, from 50 feet at 50 miles an hour they all look the same. I think most people agree that they want to drive something with a 'look' to it.

As you can see, we don't randomly bash, our opinions are justified.

Re: whats the deal

Yea domestics are much better built, especially with the focus using a 1 peice chassis/body designs. I was also surprised when I purchased my focus, how much more room it had than my mr2....comparing the front 2 seats of course. Domestic companys and Ford in particular, build amazing machines and they all more leanient on the warrenty issue. However, there are alot of imports putting out more power than domestics, but with the recent change in the economy and people looking for the best bang for their buck, american companys are packing as many ponies as they can under the hood while still keeping the price reasonable.

Re: whats the deal

ok hos this, a integra type-R runs 14.7 stock and costs 24k. if you buy a Mazdaspeed protege for 17k and run 14.9, 25hp less but 25tq more, redude the weight by 200lbs to be equal with the ITR and you ar running damn close to 14.7, and if you give it race gearing like the gearing like the ITR has then you ar below 14.7(more like 14.5) and still have 7K to spend and will be able to hit 13's easily.
