Does anyone know if you can turn off the day time running
lights off?

I think that you can remove a DRL relay or fuse to interrupt the daytime running light circuit.

Just check if it is legal in your state to override a manufacturer's safety lighting - It's not here.

Not sure about a '97 but on later models you can press the Dome Light button, next to the headlight switch, 4 times and turn off the DRL. This only works until you start the vehicle again. Then you have to press the button again. I think

im my jimmy i can press the emergency brake just slightly enough to turn off drl the only thing is the brake light indacator light comes on but the drls are off

You have to bend back one of the pins on one of the relays.
