Pleas help me price this '83 745i
Let's see... Where do I start...
The story is the sellers father bought this car in Germany in 1983 and had it imported to the states. He drove it solely in New Orleans for about 1/2 of the year. The other half it lived in a garage or at a mechanics shop while the owner lived in Cali. It is Polaris/BLUE interior (he listed it wrong in the paper). Wood trim needs a redo, seats are cracked up. Odo says 36,xxx miles, doesn't work. Probably not many miles on it. It was owned by a rich man who drove it infrequently. All the controls are in German. Interior could be turned around easily. The body is generally nice. They kept it up pretty well over the years by doing any bodywork necessary. It has one large scratch/gash on the D/S rear quarter. Apparently the old man is not the best driver. Paint is nice. It has always been garaged. A compound and wax would make this thing pop. A little rust in the trunk lid. Otherwise, NO RUST that I could see. It was driven in New Orleans only, so I don't suspect any rust, but I did not get underneath it, nor do I know where rust likes to hang out in the e23. The engine doesn't run b/c it has a broken rocker shaft and everything is torn down to replace the head. Radiator, airbox, AFM, valve cover and other misc. parts are in the trunk. There is no timing chain on the engine. Turbo is in place. It will need a head at least to get it going again. I also noticed an oil leak where it had been parked. Not sure where it is coming from. 14" bottle cap wheels with good tires. I told him he would not get his asking price, and he admitted it might be a little high. He is basically trying to get rid of it, but doesn't want to just give it away. He put $6900 in the paper just to go fishing, I guess. The car has potential, in the right hands. Could you guys help me price this car??? Please reply with what you think it is worth, or email if interested. It would be a shame to see it go to the dump or something. http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/ass.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/ass2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/dent.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/eng.bay.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/eng.bay2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/fender.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/front.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/front2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/fulltoolkit.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/head http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/head2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/IC.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/int.2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/int.3.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/int.4.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/int.5.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/int.6.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/parts.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/side.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/side2.JPG http://members.cox.net/pholiver/745i/straight.JPG |

Re: Pleas help me price this '83 745i
somethings going for some against. 745i's go like hell! they'll feel as strong as a 750i . some much for the 'fors'....with the condition, the labor and the parts it needs w/o knowing the turbo's condition and understanding parts [air hoses, etc..] are a pain to find he's asking thousands too much. except for the 745i, 'greymarket' cars are ussually worth less than U.S. spec. cars unless they're absolutely pristine. offer him $1,000 and see what happens. [ have an estimate for the work it needs put together ] and maybe he'll come back to reality.
